This week I quarantined a decision I had to make--separated off from it--put it in isolation far from any bit of residual, entangled, bitterness or anger--not because I needed to in order to survive as I have needed to in the past, but because I wanted to for the sake of the real authentic me that I am aiming to become more and more. I quarantined said decision in order to isolate the amazing healer part of me that does beautiful compassionate things in the world. That healer needed to be in isolation from the damaged, sad, sometimes spiteful parts of me that are still learning how to be in the world again, post narcopalypse. It was the right thing to do.
All the same it was a mighty struggle to do the right thing that healer part instinctively could do without even thinking or batting an eye.
I'm certain all the therapists and narc abuse recovery experts would likely tell me to draw a boundary line in the sand. They'd encourage me to hold my ground, to not give valuable information to the narc. I'm sure some might deem my actions a fawn response of cPTSD variety in some manner and therefore a trapped-in-trauma-and-thus-unhealed or "stuck" response.
But that was not the space from whence the decision originated. The decision was born of the rich ground near the heart of healing--the soul space. A sacred, powerful space, it flows as the source from whence any healing runs--something that gets tapped or touched upon when real healing shit happens. Compassion, unfettered kindness, empathy, and mercy linger there. It's not a space controlled by said healer, its more a space visited by healer types, entrusted to healers to protect or to act as guides to. It's not a space anyone ought fuck with, generally speaking, as I'm not sure the kharmic righting of such would be good for the fucker. Almost like if you curse that soul space the curse ricochets back upon you.
And so I made a decision to mercifully give helpful, information to my ex. The as of yet still wounded parts of me wanted to hold back said information, clenched in spite.
But this time I chose to authentically give--not out of some sort of fawn response, not out of obligation, not out of guilt, not out of fear--I chose to give because I am a healer and that is who I am. And that is the most powerful, authentic source of everything good in me and who I want to become more fully, and so I walk further towards my own becoming. And that choice is oddly enough, furthering my own healing.
Relationships are like onions. Chopping an onion renders it chemically reactive. Aromatic compounds burn the eyes, inducing the flow of tears. When the volatility is too much, you have to part ways from the Onion, leaving the room. Sometimes, you have to part ways from your Other. This blog is my perspective on my own leave taking from a chemically reactive relationship with a narcissist. Read on if you are not afraid of words that may chop, cut, or react with your lachrimal ducts.

Who am I Ramblings?
With family in town this week, I'm stuck in a remembering mode of sorts. Returning to the past as mind adventure--but only in a good sort of way. I must admit that there have been years--not yet distant enough--when the returning has been the most painful, most hellish experience I've ever had. And I must remind you, in case you forgot, that I've given birth naturally before...Birthed a 10.8 lb baby sans any drugs or anesthetic, whatsoever. And the remembering and grief was indeed three thousand times worse.
But.
Somewhere, along the hellish way my real self snuck up on me.
Six years ago I opened up a browser to find the truth in a delusion I was living. My Other turned out to not be who I thought he was. But that story has been written again and again in countless novels and poems. The real story and real delusion was that I turned out to not be who I thought I was. Narcissist be damned. The story has shaped up to not really be about him, at all--at least that is how I'm writing it.
And just who am I?
Not entirely sure. But. These bits I know...
Resilient. Authentic. Real, in a Velveteen Rabbit sort of way. Weathered by life's experiences, yet strangely young in spite of or maybe because of these experiences.
Honest, to a fault, perhaps.
Highly intuitive. Learning not to buy into the world's and my ex Narc's rendition that this means something is wrong with me.
And then there's the compassion piece that I'm not sure about. Is it who I am? Not sure. It's not that I lack compassion. Far from it, I seem to have an excess of it. But it doesn't feel mine. Reason being, I don't have any control over it. Rather, it is just there hovering around me like a cloud, cloaking me in softness.
"My compassion" appears as if from somewhere else--much more than it should be allowed based on the horrific narc shit I've lived through. The compassion is the part I don't really understand. You'd think it would have been banished somewhere along the way. The narcissist certainly tried to drive it underground by pillaging it. Multiple therapists told me to abandon it as it often makes me vulnerable. Which is why its persistence puzzles me. And why I don't think its really mine, at all. It hovers around me like a cloak from somewhere else. When I'm exhausted and empty and completely lacking in every way it appears more prominently from wherever for someone else who needs it, like magic. Usually feels like some sort of river of energy flowing through me. Something I can neither stop nor start--something I just watch flow at the exact point where somebody needs massive amounts of it.
And so that settles nothing, really.
And just who am I? Not sure--but learning. And becoming more kind to myself.
I guess I'm still becoming as I watch my real self sneak back up on me.

Dear Woman I Never Knew
I don't know what to say to you except perhaps well, you got out. Sure you had to die to do so, but on some level I have come to see your passing as a kind of mercy, a severe one, but a mercy nonetheless. I've supposedly gotten out but alas it doesn't end. Your son, the one I was tethered to all those years, well it just doesn't matter that I moved away to escape, he continues to entangle me. And this, this is the sticking point. I've certainly thought about death, more as a means to escape than anything else. I don't necessarily want to die, its just I'm so tired of the endlessness of the emotional and psychological abuse. Hope as it turns out seems to be a terrible thing. For in spite of all the terrible things he has done to me over and over again, my brain stubbornly refuses to comprehend that someone like him can exist entirely without any compassion or empathy. He grows worse by the day. And in spite of me losing almost everything, he wants to suck more life out of me like a dementor. Why? He has already won a million fold over and over. He now has my children full time. Even still he wants to take more. He bullies. He stabs. He wishes me harm. All that to say, your murderer (your ex) whom fathered this thing that I was tethered to for so long, in so fathering spawned another alien just as his father spawned him. I wish I could say that your tragic death changed him--that he was able to rise above it and break the cycle of narcissist creating more narcissicism. But, I have no such news to write you. I fear for my children. I am hoping and praying that in spite of my not being able to be in proximity to them that they will somehow see through all these narcissistic enchantments and mirrors. I am hoping that I have somehow burdened them with overpowering tools that help them separate wheat from chaff, truth from lie. I pray that the narcissistic propaganda does not penetrate their spirits and souls. I pray that they hold onto compassion, empathy, hope, and kindness toward humanity and that they begin to recognize that there are things in proximity to them that are more alien than human. I'm so sorry that I failed you. When I first met him, I only wanted our relationship to be a source of healing from all of this shit for him. It still grieves me that he ultimately chose this path. They say that the narcissist cannot ever recover. But, alas I am cursed with microscopic hope that somehow this new mother figure in his life will somehow trigger healing in spite of the damning odds. And regardless of what happens with your son, I am hoping that the pattern ends with him.

Hold on
The temptation is to ditch your compassion altogether.
Become jaded—cynical—anything but empathic. Cause that is the tit the
narcissist sucked on for so many years.
In my case, he played my compassion like a fiddle—the haunting
Fiddler-On-the-Roof type character—as in always in the backdrop, sometimes
subtle, sometimes overt—but always there. His
own life story—so sad, so profusely unjust. And the fact that He stood so tall in the face of all the
injustice for so many years, rendered my compassion a no-brainer. The long ago farce that caught his father figure in a nasty spider’s web—entangled in such
ridiculousness that my heart wanted to do any and everything to bust him out of
the slammer for such ridiculousness—I couldn’t
believe that the system could be so unjust.
Perhaps, it wasn’t all
that unjust.
Perhaps, things
went down, as they damn well should have.
The night we told our kids that we were getting divorced, I
saw the truth of what happened so many years ago. The eyes can communicate
so much. Some things are obvious. Some things hit you hard. And it was there
staring me in the face—the hatred. The I-would-kill-you look. I have never seen
that look before and hope to never see it again. But in an instant I knew a
lot. I knew truth that told me that self-preservation was in my own best interest. I knew danger. And it was there in one look staring through me as if I wasn't really there.
There was no empathy or kindness looking out of those eyes. It was almost as if the absence of emotion was the only thing present. A vacant sort of look except for the presence of dark, pure, uncontained hatred and rage that had percolated up from somewhere deep. The rage was almost palpable, making the hair on my arms stand at attention.
It was an instant where I intuitively saw with my other eye as the past, present, and future met each other.
The past where this happened before. Those empty eyes had been present before staring out of a different body. In that inherited look, things crystallized for me.
The past where this happened before. Those empty eyes had been present before staring out of a different body. In that inherited look, things crystallized for me.
I could see one future where harm greeted me as it had her and ushered me behind the veil. I could see another where I lost everything, surrendered it all as the bargaining chip for my own life--for the chance to keep breathing.
Yes.
I want to keep breathing. That is the one I choose.
I want to keep breathing. That is the one I choose.
And so my intuition began speaking. Back away from this. Get out. Survive. It doesn’t matter if you lose the house. It
doesn’t really matter if you lose everything. Just survive. Start over. You've got this. Hold on.
And hold onto your compassion—it is your strength, really. Hold on. You'll be tempted not to but hold on.
And hold onto your compassion—it is your strength, really. Hold on. You'll be tempted not to but hold on.
And so I shall. I shall.
